Where to Begin

I grew up in a Real Estate household. I knew at 7 years old – I could answer the business line at the home but I couldn’t give price, terms, and availability on a home. Most of you have no idea what that means, but it’s something they teach you in real estate school. I honestly had no idea that not everyone grows up with this very specific knowledge I was learning at the same time as cursive everyday. I do not say any of this to brag or to sound qualified to help (although I like to think I am). I simply say these things so you understand that I sometimes take for granted how much there is to know and learn about home buying.

That is one of the biggest reasons I wanted to start this blog. I want to have a great resource for people to come and feel not at all judged or guilty for not knowing. If I can share any bit of knowledge to help the growing numbers of people entering our real estate market everyday then I will have a sense of pride and accomplishment.

It is always ok to ask questions, to solicit the help of people that are helping and guiding you along the way. I think this is one thing I think gets misconstrued in real estate. It is incredibly important to hire someone you trust and can relate to and isn’t afraid to tell you the truth and maybe even share some funny or embarrassing stories along the way. I believe home buying should be more fun than stressful as it’s one of the most exciting purchases you can make. That being said, hire people you enjoy being around. Find a great Agent you don’t mind being stuck in a car with and asking “silly” questions to. They are your mentor, resource and friend for the next several weeks, months or years. Also, they can often times help refer you a variety of good people to help with financing and escrows, inspections, insurance and everyone’s favorite termite treatments (lol). You should feel confident that you are surrounded with people that are on your “team” to make you a Real Estate Guru and Powerhouse.

The best advice is don’t be scared to dive in, hire an Agent and learn as you go. I tend to find myself being thorough and providing as much information as I feel I can so my clients can make a sound decision and feel comfortable and confident during the home buying process. I try to always make sure my clients are prepared for the next step. That being said, I’m sure my clients could still feel like they need more or less info at any given stage. I was a communication major so my favorite thing is when people are open and honest with me. With good communication, even if it’s simply “I still don’t understand” helps me to know where to go from there. I find real estate genuinely rewarding and enjoyable. There are several different markets and it is constantly changing and evolving. They can all come with their own unique challenges, but that’s what keeps things interesting. We are in this together. I hope this is just the beginning to nurturing a love for real estate. Lord knows I was destined to be in this industry and share it with others.

Let me tell you, I still learn new things evey.single.day. Let’s learn together!
